Notre maison

Our house is very well located in the suburb. We have a nice view to the mountains and good space around the house. It is a 2 floor house but on the ground floor there is a little apartment that we rent out (not a part of the exchange). The tenants are a very nice young couple. There is absolutely no disturbance from them, in fact we hardly know they are there. There is no opening between the two apartments and a separate entrance. The main apartment is 145 square meters. We have 5 bedrooms, master bedroom with a king size bed (180 cm), one bedroom with a queen size bed (120 cm), two bedrooms with single beds (90 cm) and one bedroom with a double sofabed (140 cm). All beds are comfortable for adults. There is also a hall, living room, kitchen, laundry room and a garage. We have a nice terrace and a very big garden with a big trampoline. Just behind our garden, there is a school-playground, that is open for everyone to use. There is no disturbance from that playground at all in the summertime (if you were wondering ;)). Access to 5 bicycles (good hardtail mountain bikes) and a car is optional. Since Akureyri is not a big town, you can easily walk or ride a bike from our house to the town center or all over town, for that matter :).

There is an indoor public swimming pool with 3 outdoor hot tubs almost in our backyard (just 500 meters away). There is also a big swimming pool-area (two big pools, hot tubs and water slides) in town. You will also find pools in every nearby town (not far away).

Akureyri is a beautiful town and has lots of activities that you can enjoy. There are many possible day tours that you can take, where you will find magnificent nature. For example „Mývatnssveit“ and „Möðrudalur á fjöllum“, the list is a lot longer ;). See websites below. There are also many beautiful towns you can visit, only a short distance from Akureyri (for example: Dalvík, Siglufjörður, Hrísey (an island), Grímsey (also an island), Húsavík).

We made a detailed "day tour brochure" (home-made), were we list up roads, length in km and time driving as well as information on the attraction.

Iceland is known for its swimming pools and hot tubs. You will find swimming pools and hot tubs in almost every town.

This video says it all :)

If you are into mountain biking, you will find many good trails in Akureyri.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a family of 5 (age 45, 44, 16, 15 and 13). We are thrilled with the idea of learning about new cultures and share „our world“ with other people. Our interests include sightseeing, cycling, sport activities and experiencing other cultures and nature. We are very respectful of other people's houses and belongings and would treat your property with the utmost care. We have made one "home exchange" (2016), which went very well. The couple that we made the exchange with, were very happy with the exchange. You can read their review under "Recommendation".

Akureyri sits on the north coast under snowcapped peaks at the head of Iceland’s longest fjord. It’s Iceland’s second biggest urban area, and while you shouldn’t expect a big-city vibe (the population is only 18,000), this easy-going place has more buzz than anywhere outside of Reykjavík. It’s also a great base for exploring the north's green pastures, fishing villages, mudpots, waterfalls, ski fields and whale-filled bays. Signs of the earth’s power – glaciers, volcanoes, lava fields and stacks of basalt – are everywhere, while strange underwater features lure divers and offshore islands are home to colonies of seabirds. Akureyri is the center of culture, education and leisure activities.
