Notre maison

The house was built in 1940 and is 100 sq.meters. It has a well equipped kitchen with an oven, stove, fridge, freezer, toaster, senseo coffee machine, Kitchenaid mixer and water kettle. The kitchen table seats four. There are three bedrooms, a master bedroom with a 180cm x 200cm bed, a kids room with a 80cm x 200cm bed, some toys like legos, crayons and couloring books, and a TV with a Wii computer. We could provide an extra mattress for this room so it sleeps 2 persons. Then there is a room with a single bed, 90cm x 200cm, and in there is also a TV and Playstation 3 computer. There is one bathroom with a bathtub/shower, hairdryer and straightening iron. The living room has a living room table that can be drawn out to seat up to 6 people, but otherwise seets 3. We have a flat screen TV with access to Netflix, local stations and a Playstation 4 computer. There is also a radio and a record player. From the living room is a door to a small balcony with a barbecue. We also have a garden. Akureyri is a great place in itself, with lots of culture and nice restaurants, swimming pool and botanical garden. It is also a great home base for day tours, experiencing North Iceland. From Akureyri you can go on whale watching expeditions and in the winter, it's a 10 minute drive from our house to one of the best ski-areas in Iceland, Hlidarfjall Ski Resort.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a couple, Jonina, an artist and Magnus, a teacher and we have three boys the age of 13, 10 and the youngest born in 2018.

  2. We love travelling, culture, cooking and discovering the food and wine of the places we stay in. The boys love zoos and amusement parks and playing in nature.

The neighbourhood is one of the older ones in town, just 10 minutes from the midtown, it's quiet, family friendly, with lots of trees, interesting houses and a walking distence from the town's Botanical gardens, church, swimming pool and harbor.

Rub23, Strikid and Nanna seafood. For something more casual, there is e.g. Akureyri backpackers or Sushi Corner.
En soirée
Downtown there are some good pubs like R5, Gotubarinn and Mulaberg. Places stay open until Midnight or 01 on weekdays and 03 or 04 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Nice cafés include Bláa Kannan in an iconic old house called París, Te og kaffi where you have a view of the midtown, and then Bistro 1862 in Hof culture house, where you have a view of the harbor.
Downtown in smaller, lokal shops, in the street Kaupvangsstraeti, or in Glerartorg mall, which is a 5 minute walk from our house and has a supermarket.
Akureyri is often called the capital of the North, and is the second most populated area outside of the capital area. Here we have a beautiful Botanical garden, a church designed by the same designer that did the church of Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, and a cultural center called the Art Street, that is housed in former factories downtown and is now galleries, the Akureyri Art museum, art studios and cafés.
From Hof culture house there is a path that stretches along the ocean and all the way past the oldest part of town, to the airport and then onward to the town of Hrafnagil. In summer, it is also very nice to drive to Kjarnaskogur, a wooded area in a 10 minute drive from our house, and take a tour there. There are also some playgrounds there for kids.
Un peu d'exercice
The Akureyri swimming pool is where a lot of locals choose to do their exercise, by swimming. In the very next house to the swimming pool is a good gym as well.
Idées d’excursions
Norhtern Iceland has some of the most interesting nature in all of Iceland. A day trip east will get you to Godafoss waterfall, beautiful lake Myvatn, Namaskard geothermal area and Myvatn Nature Baths. A day trip to the north would show you the interesting town of Siglufjördur, a beautiful place with an interesting history, displayed in the unorthodox and captivating museum Sildarminjasafnid. The town itself is very pretty with good cafés, bars and a bursting artlife, that can be seen in the town many outdoor sculptures. A little furher and you can take a dip in the swimming pool in the town of Hofsos, known for it's design and the scenery from the pool.
