Notre maison

La Cougerie is an architect-designed home which we had built in 2012, on two acres of land. With French doors on the east and west sides, our home is filled with light from dawn to dusk. We have included all amenities with a mind to comfort - dishwasher, back kitchen with washer and dryer, separate shower room and WC for our guests, large American beds, cozy fireplace, air conditioning and radiant heat. With books, CD's and paintings we have brought from the United States, as well as many books in French, it is a place for you to make yourselves at home.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a retired couple: a chef from France (husband) and a high-school administrator (wife) who is a native Berkeleyan. We have a son who lives around the corner from us with his wife and young daughter. He is always willing to help out in our absence. Our other son lives in Australia with his wife and baby son. Their apartment in Sydney is small, so we are interested in finding a place to stay for our annual visits. We live part-time in the south of France and also like to spend time in Paris and to travel around Europe when possible. Because we spend a good portion of the year away from Berkeley, an exchange does not need to be simultaneous.

La Cougerie is a renovated farm property located in the heart of Périgord Noir ~ the Dordogne Region’s truffle and pâté country. It sits high above the Vézère River Valley, with splendid views of the countryside. Just minutes away from the Lascaux Caves in Montignac, the Cro-Magnon dwellings at les Eyzies de Tayac, Josephine Baker's castle, and the medieval town of Sarlat – capital of Périgord Noir – la Cougerie is an ideal home base for exploring the region, whether by car, on foot, or by canoe. We are also only two kilometers from the commune of Tamniès, which has its own lake, offering picnic space, swimming, and fishing.

The Dordogne offers a multitude of cultural events, including outdoor theater, concerts in the church, and sidewalk jazz. There are open-air markets to see almost every day of the week in neighboring towns. Or you can just sit on the terrace at la Cougerie simply enjoying the panoramic view of the countryside.
