Notre maison

"Les Sources" is an enchanting Anglo-Norman villa with a babbling trout stream running through the garden - it really has the ooh factor!
There are two comfy living rooms downstairs, one with an open plan kitchen adjoining. We've a large old French farmhouse dining table that can sit up to 15 people in the second living room that also doubles as the TV room (with DVD player and a selection of DVDs) There is a downstairs WC.
Three bedrooms on the first floor, two doubles each with a double and a single bed, plus a single bedroom. Bathroom.
On the top floor is a twin bedroom, another bedroom that is not in use and an attic room where we hang wet clothes, towels etc. after the beach.
The interior is shabby chic, with a mix of French antique furniture and items that have come from our main residence.
We have a lawned garden with pretty flowerbeds, A wooden bridge leads onto a small 'island' in the river - a wonderfully quiet spot to sit and read, or just listen to the water.
There is an outhouse where we store garden chairs and tables, bicycles, and outdoor games including badminton rackets and a croquet set.
Indoors we also have plenty of toys and books in English and French.
Because of the stream which is 1-2 feet deep and quite fast flowing, Les Sources is not suitable for families with toddlers or pre-schoolers.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a Francois and Alison, journalists in our forties with two children aged 11 and 6. Francois is franco-American, Alison is Welsh. We live on the outskirts of Paris but go to Veules whenever we can. We usually spend most of the summer there.
We haven't done a home exchange before but we've traveled a lot, all over the world.
We'd like to swap homes for a week or so during any French school holiday period, i.e. Christmas hols, February, Easter or over the summer 2009 and we are open to suggestions as to where. A cottage on the Gower peninsula would be high on our list of preferences.
We'd also consider a long-weekend swap if it were somewhere easy to get to, including in France.
Since "Les Sources" is our second home it need not be a simultaneous swap.
We have small well-behaved dog, Cookie, whom we might like to bring with us if possible.
Alison is allergic so no homes with cats, unfortunately.

Veules-les-roses is one of France's 100 prettiest villages and in our view the most picturesque seaside town within striking distance of Paris, where we live most of the year.

Take a look at for more info.

A sandy beach with beach huts, cafes, a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the sea and a play area for children is five minutes walk from our house. A sailing club offers lessons and hires out small catamarans and windsurfers.

Veules also has tennis courts, a restaurant listed in the Michelin guide, and numerous artists studios.

There is a pony club in a neighbouring village.

For practical purposes, Veules has as old-fashioned butcher, baker, grocery store, post office, newsagent, pharmacy, hairdresser and doctor's surgery. There is a street market selling fresh produce Wednesday mornings, and local fishermen sell their catch on the seafront every day of the week.

Veules is great for anyone coming from the UK. The village is just a 20 minute drive south of Dieppe, where there are several ferries a day to Newhaven, England.

The surounding countryside is lush and green and excellent for walks, cycling and horseriding. There are lots of historic villages and towns to explore.

St Valery en Caux with its marina, cinema and seafront casino is just down the road. Rouen, with its famed cathedral is less than an hour's drive away. Paris is two and a half hours by car.
