Notre maison

A large 4th floor (5th in the USA) flat, situated at the tip of a cosy 19th century Hausmanian building overlooking the Montparnasse cemetery, with a round living room facing full south, and the other rooms are on either side of the building. There are no houses in front, and the flat is a very bright place, with sun pouring in from early morning on the eastern side to the evening where it disappears behind the Montparnasse tower. Our closest neighbours are Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, so to speak. But in the summer, the cemetery is just a sea of green, it's really beautiful.

From west to east, there is one very large (master) bedroom, a small dining room, the living room, the baby's room, the bathroom, another child's room, the kitchen and WC.
All rooms are recently painted, mostly white except the children ones.
We have broadband internet (wifi), a great stereo, plenty of records, a large collection of books and comic books, both in french and english. No TV, can't stand it. The furniture is contemporary, some of it handmade. The kitchen and bathroom's equipment are the usual (no dryer, but we have a private platform with clothesline on the service entrance side), but would probably appear a bit rough to someone used to USA standards.
There is a small collection of cacti, incl. a very large euphorbium.

I have a good bike (that needs to be carried the 4 flights of stairs!) My wife has one too (not so good but should be changed soon) that stays on ground floor.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We're Laurence & Stéphane, both 42. We have a 16 mths old baby girl and a 10 yr old daughter with Down Syndrome. I'm a painter/graphic artist (you can see my work at, while Laurence is an executive in the public health sector.
We haven't exchanged houses before. Both children require extensive attention, so we're looking for a nice place in the country, near beaches or with a swimming pool (the girls love that).

If we can manage to leave one or both girls to family, we would love nothing better than to go Japan, Canada, or back to New Zealand. But it's not really easy !

We always go to great lengthes to leave the places we rent spotless.

It's Paris, what can I say? There is everything. Plenty of movie houses inside of a 5 minutes walk perimeter. A streetful of theatres right around the corner. Public swimming pool nearby, train stations, department stores, shopping, more (good) restaurants than you can shake a tick at, etc. As it used to be an artists neighborhood, you'll be amazed by the artists studios at the top of many buildings.

The neighborhood is reasonably quiet during the day, less so in the evening, because Montparnasse is one of the (numerous) magnet night spots in Paris. We're thankfully not overlooking the more agitated boulevard, but there is still a lot of traffic.

In the summer, they open the "Paris Beach" (Paris plage) on the banks of the Seine, with actual beaches of imported sand. It's crowded but nice.
