Notre maison

Large newly renovated farmhouse. Kitchen, Large sitting-room, Bathroom, Two bedrooms, toilet and garage at ground floor level.
First floor has large play area with pool table and quality sound system, two large bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The following is the blurb taken from the website from which we bought the house eight years ago. Since buying it we have totally renovated the house and developed the attic area...................

"This has the whole package- the sunny gated courtyard, the large, light rooms, garden with views over the countryside, and a very comfortable stone house. And all just a few minutes from one of the prettiest villages in the area.

The house itself is lovely, with just about every room having French doors to either the large enclosed courtyard or the terrace overlooking the garden. Comprising a spacious hallway with doors to: kitchen/dining room with door to the garage utility room, a lounge with fireplace and doors to the terrace, two very large bedrooms, and a slightly dated but very spacious bathroom. And this is all on the ground floor, upstairs is a very large attic which could be converted to more accommodation. Outside there is the aforementioned courtyard and across from the house is the working renovated bread oven, the barn and wood store, and an open stone shelter, while at the rear of the house is an 80m² terrace (ideal location for the evening aperitif while viewing the setting sun) and large garden. The property is in good condition, and benefits from a very efficient but economical wood fired central heating system.

The property is in a small hamlet with very little traffic, but just a short walk through the woods is the pretty riverside village of Nanteuil, with its shops and restaurants, and the market town of Ruffec is only 10min drive" ................

  1. We are a family of four;

    Mossy (67), Anne (Younger), Eithne(27) and Paddy(23).

    I have recently retired from work as a lecturer in Civil Engineering, Anne is a Social Worker. Eithne has now taken up employment with Emirates Airlines so she will have many independent travel opportunities and will no longer be part of our exchange plans. Paddy is a third level student and part-time trainee manager at a local hotel. Accordingly, he too would be an unlikely traveller. It really depends on what comes up, and when.

    Alas, we no longer look quite as young as in the accompanying photograph which was taken a few years ago but we still bear a passing resemblance.
    We are experienced exchangers(San Diego, San Francisco, Maine, Chicago, Brittany, Montpelier, Cannes). We take good care of our exchange homes and know that the same would apply to the people with whom we exchange.

Lovely quiet rural hamlet 3 km from the picturesque village of Nanteuil en Vallee. The village has basic facilities such as small shop, bakery, butchers, playing pitches, beautiful arboretum, tennis courts and two superb restaurants. Extremely courteous, helpful and interesting neighbours.

The Charente region typically enjoys 2,400 sunshine hours a year and is the hottest and sunniest place of the whole Atlantic coast, in France second only to the French Riviera. The region is a verdant one, which gets just enough rainfall which, blended with the long hours of sunshine, enables successful agriculture as well as wine and liqueur production like the famous Cognac wines and liquors. The town of Cognac is about an hour's drive away.
