Notre maison

This is the ground-floor apartment of a three-story private townhouse built in the 16th century. The overall shape is a long rectangle, with living/sitting room on the street on one end and kitchen looking onto a terraced garden at the far end, with three bedrooms and an office facing the paving-stoned garden courtyard. A long central hallway separates the bedrooms from the bath room, toilet, utility closet and one of the entrances to the kitchen. The courtyard, which runs the length of the house along the side and is also the car entrance, is very green, with trees, bushes and flowers. The back garden and terrace with table and fireplace (used for very simple barbecuing) are protected by high walls and are very quiet, overlooked only by the owner and 2nd floor neighbors. The three bedrooms sleep 6: the master bedroom has a double bed, the second (with communicating door) has bunk beds, and the third has a single bed and a comfortable folding bed/chair. The large eat-in kitchen has an original fireplace (decorative) and a table seating 6 people without leaves, 10 with leaves. The living/sitting room has the second original fireplace, which is useable. There is a third (19th c) decorative fireplace in the third bedroom. The apartment is always cool in summer, a result of 2-1/2 foot-thick stone walls.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I am an ESL/EFL teacher and translator. My two children, a boy of 12 and a girl of 16 love to read. My daughter also loves kayaking and canoeing, and my son takes tennis lessons, likes roller blading, fishing, and generally being outside. We have a Golden Retriever (who spends his vacations either with us or in a kennel in the country), TWO CATS, cared for by the owner of the house, and varying numbers of goldfish. I have only two children, but have put "five" to allow for the children's friends coming with us - it won't necessarily be the case that there will be four children with me.

The house is located in the historic center of Dijon, in the Law Courts quarter of Dijon, a 5-minute walk from the 15th-c Palais des Ducs de Bourgogne, which houses the fine arts museum and faces a large plaza with fountains and outdoor restaurants. Most of the city'€™s principal historic buildings, as well as the traditional French market area and the train station are within a 15-minute walk. Shopping of all kinds is between a 5- and 10-minute walk. City buses take you rapidly to municipal tennis courts and swimming pool, or a pleasant 20-minute walk gets you there. Dijon itself offers a great deal to do and see, and when that'€™s finished, a short drive (40 minutes direct by highway) takes you to Beaune, in the heart of the Burgundy vineyards, or drive down through the tiny villages along the Route of the Grands Crus. Germany - the Black Forest and Freiburg, notably - and Switzerland and the French Alps are 2-3 hours away; Paris is an hour and forty minutes by high-speed train.
