Notre maison

Our second home is an elegant 3 storey stone townhouse set in the heart of Old Cognac. We live about 20 mins away, here in the beautiful sw France, in Poitou Charentes, surrounded by vineyards, endless sunflower fields, and less than an hour from the beaches of the Atlantic coast.

Cognac is a vibrant multi-cultural town, with theatre, cinema, museums, art galleries, public gardens, and of course excellent restaurants and cafes. There is an up-market shopping mall, a covered daily market selling everything from fresh flowers, fruit and meat, to the locally caught oysters.

All this is within walking distance of the house, although it is situated in a quiet area of the old medieval town, surrounded by narrow cobbled streets, which lead down to the wide River Charente, the port area and the Hennessy buildings, where you can take a tour and sample the cognac, named after this town.

The house is comfortably and elegantly furnished, in French traditional style. Ground floor has entrance hall with original tiling, large sitting/dining room and sep. kitchen/breakfastrm. There is a downstaairs wc.

2nd floor has comfortable double bedroom, and large twin bedroom with en-suite shower/wc.

3rd floor is an entire suite of FOUR POSTER bed, seating area, and en-suite bathrm.

Gas central heating.

Parking is free, on the adjacent tree-lined square.

You can walk to everything, and after an excellent meal, stroll home after.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Ruth and Ian Butcher, coming originally from East Anglia. We moved here permanently in October 2002.

We have been lucky enough to take early retirement, and we run our second home for holiday lets, but are also looking to exchange so that we can visit family down in the south of Spain (normally in the colder months!), or in England during spring and autumn. We can be flexible about dates, as it can be a non-simultaneous exchange. Obviously we can only arrange dates around paid for bookings!

We are happy to help with language problems, or just to tell our story of why we love to live in this area, and how we came to do so!

Cognac is well-placed and central to Bordeaux, Poitiers and La Rochelle airports. There is an efficient train station too. Or you can drive down from the Channel ports.

La Rochelle is only just over an hour away, and nearer are the seaside resorts of Royan, Rochefort, and several quiet coastal towns.

There is always something going on in and around Cognac, you are never at a loss for something to do. It's more a question of fitting it all in!
