Notre maison

Built on the first floor of the old 'stables' of the Domaine, ‘Le Nid d’Hirondelle’ (Swallows’ Nest) is part of our grand Maison de Maitre, dating back to 1882.

Named after the first inhabitants to live there, a factor which is believed to bring good luck, ‘Le Nid d’Hirondelle’ offers excellent family accommodation; sleeping 6 people in the three bedrooms (2 king size beds and 1 twin bed).

We have taken very special care to retain the unique character of the building. Each bedroom has been individually decorated and all 3 ensuite bathrooms and separate w/c contain the latest modern fittings and fixtures. The utility room and separate kitchen has a dishwasher, cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and drier. This leads through to a large dining area which comfortably seats up to 8 people.

Between the dining room and the sitting room there is a study area.

The spacious sitting room with vaulted ceiling, opens on to the terrace via French windows, as do two of the double bedrooms. Each of these rooms is south facing giving you extensive views of the landscaped garden and vineyard.

The terrace is reached from the rear garden and car parking area and takes excellent advantage of the sun and views. Here you will find the summer kitchen and BBQ area. The terrace has sun loungers and table for alfresco dining. From the terrace there are steps down to the garden and large swimming pool, with its lush gardens and sun.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Graeme and David. We are in our mid forties and moved to France from London in July 2004 to set up our small boutique hotel in what was a wine Domaine dating back to 1882. Our previous careers had been in International Investment Banking and Education. We have travelled widely and our home reflects a mixture of European and Asian culture.

The Swallows' Nest is part of our home which can be viewed on our websites and (See the homepage)

In addition to the two of us we have 4 small dachshund dogs who love to play in the 2 acre garden.

We know a great deal about this region from the Mediterranean coast to the mountains we overlook and would be happy to help our 'visitors' plan their holidays in this fascinating and as yet relatively undiscovered region of France.

Carcassonne and the Region.
Whilst medieval Carcassonne (included in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites) has many attractions with its fairy tale turrets and ramparts, the Minervois itself has a history dating back 2,000 years. The Swallows' Nest is ideally placed, between the Canal du Midi, the Montagne Noir and the Corbieres, to visit many of the region’s attractions. Cathar castles, for example Les Chateaux de Lastours and other beautiful medieval villages, such as Minerve and Lagrasse. For those guests wishing to visit the Mediterranean coast and its beaches the region’s coastal towns of Narbonne, Agde and Sete can be easily reached as can the Camargue, the Pyrenees and Catalan Spain. Cathar sites of interest, especially those at Carcassonne, Béziers and the village of Minerve offer rich cultural experiences and breath taking scenery.

We would be happy to help you plan your visits and supply leaflets on the many places within this spectacular region.

Canal du Midi.
This runs through the whole of the region from Carcassone towards Castelnaudary. With its tree lined banks and many eating and drinking places en route, it is an ideal way to spend a relaxing day, either walking, or taking a boat trip.
