Notre maison

Our home is a village house built into the 12th century ramparts built by the Knights Templar. It is full of character and charm and renovated in 2007 to modern standards, with central heating as well as wood burning stoves in kitchen and winter living room. The house is on three floors. The ground floor has a fully equipped country kitchen, a dining room, and bathroom. The kitchen and dining room have French doors that give onto a covered south facing terrace that has a dining table that can accommodate eight people and has magnificent views over the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mt. Ventoux. In summer, this becomes our living room. On the first floor there are two large double bedrooms and a single room, as well as a toilet. On the second floor there is a large (49 square meter) living room, a large double bedroom, and a bathroom. Both marble tiled bathrooms have showers rather than bathtubs.
The house is spacious, light and airy with wonderful views from every room. The house is eclectic but uncluttered, featuring decoration from different periods of its occupation since 1123. WIFI throughout the house.
The house is not suitable for small children because the terrace wall is quite low and there is a large drop down from there.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a semi-retired couple. Richard is a published author and still writing. Elizabeth is a retired international civil servant. Our house reflects our lifestyle which is comfortable but simple with an emphasis on outdoor activities, reading and music.

We have lived in many countries, have travelled extensively and have recently had successful swaps in Australia, New Zealand, Paris, Amsterdam and London (our thanks to all involved).

We have now concluded agreements for exchanges for the remainder of 2013.

We are looking for exchanges, of one to two weeks in central Paris and central London
in the period between March and November 2014. And if you are somewhere else and would like to swap we are always open to ideas.

Cairanne is a thriving village. The main business is wine growing and the wines are excellent and recently upgraded. Our house is in the old village, perched over the plains with a 180 degree view for miles around. The lower village, which is 5 minutes walk away has a butcher, newsagent, grocer and general store, bakery, post office, doctor, hairdressers, cafe and good value restaurant (Le Tourne au Verre), as well as the outlet for the independent vineyards and a Cooperative winery.
It is a paradise for walkers with the GR4 passing in front of the house. You can walk 1m 5, 10, or even 20 Km without ever retracing your steps.
For climbers, the Dentelles de Montmirail are 10 min away and offer endless opportunities.
It is a major centre for bicyclists.
For lovers of historical sites the Roman sites of Vaison la Romaine (15 min), Orange (20 min), Glanum or Avignon (45min) are within easy reach.
Provence is famous for its markets and the closest is just 5 min. drive in Ste Cecile des Vignes, while Vaison la Romaine (15 min), Carpentras (30 min) and Isle sur la Sorge (45 min) are not far.
Wine tasting in Cairanne, Vacqueras, Gigondas and Chateau Neuf du Pape is on your door step.
In summer there are classical and jazz music concerts in Cairanne and the neighbouring villages, as well as opera productions in Orange (20 minutes), and Vaison la Romaine which has an extensive musical program in the summer.
