Notre maison

My home is a great example of the local Perigord architecture with its mellow stone walls and very deep roof. I live in the house, and in peak periods I let the barn adjoining the house.
When restoring the barn I invited the best local artisans to work with me. I wanted to keep its unique character, but also to create a space with an atmosphere all of its own, and which reflects contemporary needs. The barn layout is open plan and there is a kitchenette integral to the ground floor living space. There is also a summer kitchen in the outbuilding next to the barn, which is well equipped with gas cooker and fridge. Most of the furniture comes from my home in England, but there are also French antiques, and a king size Ikea bed! On the ground floor there is a sofa bed which sleeps two. There is a door to the rear which opens out onto a lovely terrace where you can eat in the shade of a huge walnut tree. It is very private and overlooks the Auvezere valley. My books, films and music are in the barn, and you are welcome to browse!

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. I came here by chance in 1991, and bought the house the following year. Restoring this place has proved to be quite an adventure, and it provided me with a new lease of life after my husband died in 1994 of cancer. When my youngest daughter went off to university I moved here permanently from the UK, and completed the restoration of the barn.
I am a poet and a passionate gardener, and have a large organic vegetable garden. I also keep indian runner ducks! My friends consider this place to be a haven of peace and I am happy to join this scheme to spend some time in places which I wouldn't otherwise get to see. I like the idea of seeing a place from a different viewpoint to the usual tourist kind of accommodation, and am happy to welcome people here on the same basis.

I live a few minutes' walk from the village centre which has a restaurant, cafe and general store. The house and barn are just off the road on a marked walking path which connects to the GR walking routes which cover all of France. Anlhiac is totally peaceful and unspoilt, with a 12th century church and two chateaux. One hour's drive away are the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Font de Gaume, and also the world museum of prehistory in Les Eyzies. You have interesting chateaux just nearby in Excideuil and Hautefort, and quite a choice of industrial archaeological sites like the paper mills and forges on the river Auvezere. The cities of Perigueux, Limoges and Brive all have great markets, museums and shops. There are lots of restaurants serving the local gastronomy nearby. Terrasson has a michelin star restaurant next door to the contemporary gardens "'L''Imaginaire'', and there are many more fabulous gardens within driving distance. There is a swimming lake at Rouffiac with a little beach, and you can canoe on the Auvezere, play golf on the championship course at Essendieras (only ten minutes' away), and which also offers horse riding.
