Notre maison

Our home is a one-storey, 50s style home with a suite in the basement. It has the original, refinished oak and fir floors on the main floor, with linoleum in the three-piece bathroom and two-piece ensuite. There are three bedrooms on the main floor, with the smallest now being used as a TV room, with a 55" Samsung Smart TV, a comfy leather loveseat, and two Ikea leather Pong chairs from which to watch TV or listen to music. The recently renovated kitchen has a Kitchenaid induction stove with a convection oven, a refrigerator with a freezer drawer, dishwasher, and convection/microwave/hood above the stove. There is an electric coffee maker and other small appliances that will make your food preparation easier. The main floor has an open dining/living/kitchen area, with a peninsula with two stools separating the dining and kitchen areas. There is a door to the back deck, barbeque, and backyard from the kitchen. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and a two-piece ensuite, and the second bedroom provides another queen size bed. Downstairs there is a bedroom with a queen bed, a three-piece bathroom, family room and kitchenette. The laundry has a washtub and a front-loading washer and dryer. The house has a heat pump that keeps it warm in winter and cool in the summer. The house is bright, cheery, and comfortable and is well located so that you can walk to everything you need during your stay.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. My husband, Garth, and I, Jan, are retired educators, who like to travel. We have enjoyed spending the past seven Canadian winters in Australia, visiting our daughters and other family and friends in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne.

From November 2017 to April 2018, we would like exchanges near Clarence Gardens, South Australia, and the southern beaches in the Sydney/Woolongong/South Coast areas of NSW. The exchanges can be synchronous or asynchronous.

We have enjoyed our exchanges and house sitting experiences and have maintained the properties we occupy to a very high standard. In return, we would expect you to do the same for us.

Our house is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood on the curve of an attractive tree-lined street. It is half a block from Willows Park Village on Cadboro Bay Rd. that has the popular Pure Vanilla coffee shop/patisserie/cafe, a Sushi restaurant, liquor store, grocery/florist/convenience store, butcher, hair salon, spa, dry cleaners, and other services. It is also a short five-minute walk to Estevan Village, where there are more restaurants, shops, and services, and which is half-way to Willows beach that has a lovely sandy beach, picnic areas, a tea room and a playground for children. From there, it is a a short walk to Cattle Point and Uplands Park. Ten minutes from our house in the opposite direction takes you to another small village with the Oak Bay Recreation Centre, a supermarket, liquor store, Starbucks, restaurants, drug stores, and other services. The Royal Jubilee Hospital and walk-in clinics are five minutes further.

Oak Bay Village, a popular stop for both locals and tourists, is a fifteen to twenty minutes' walk south from our house. There you will find a variety of shops, restaurants, galleries, banks and other services, and the Penny Farthing Pub.

Buses to the City, the University of Victoria and other shopping centres stop a half-block away. The Legislature, BC Museum, Fairmont Empress, Victoria's Inner Harbour, Beacon Hill Park, and downtown are about a five km. walk or a ten-fifteen minutes' drive/bus ride. The University of Victoria is 3 kms. away.

The Greater Victoria area is picturesque and offers a lot of wonderful venues for tourists to enjoy, including The Butchart Gardens; Government House with its beautiful gardens, tea room and costume museum; Craigdarroch Castle; Fisherman's Wharf; Fort Rodd Hill and the Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic sites; The Galloping Goose Trail for walking and cycling; wineries, cideries, and brew pubs, and provincial parks. Our house provides a good base from which to visit these and to go whale watching, to travel around Vancouver Island, or to visit many Gulf Islands.

The Seattle Clipper will take you from the Inner Harbour of Victoria to Seattle, and the Swartz Bay ferry will take to to Vancouver. There are also frequent ferries that take you to the Gulf and San Juan Islands. All are very scenic trips. For Seattle and the San Juan Islands, you will need a visa to enter the USA.
