Notre maison

We are currently living in Brussels but keep a flat in Sofia for our stays there. It is 89 square meters and located in the exact centre of Sofia, a hundred metres from the parliament and sixteenth century Bashi Banya Mosque. It is a floor of a nineteenth century house with high ceilings and has been recently refurbished. Our summer villa is located in the hamlet of Razmiritza in the Balkan Mountains, 50km from Sofia. It has stunning views down the valley of Leskov Dol towards the Iskar Gorge. The train from Sofia to Svoge (10km) away takes 40-50 minutes and a bus service runs thrice daily up the valley. There is a kitchen, bathroom, and livingroom on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor. It has a large terrace and large garden. It is an excellent base for walking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. This being our second home we can, of course, exchange non simultaneously for a period next year.

Sofia is unique for a European capital city in being situated at the foot of a 2, 200 metre mountain, Mount Vitosha. The city centre was laid out in the mid-nineteenth century, first on a plan of the Ottoman authorities and later modified after independence in 1878. Two sixteenth century mosques, several Byzantines churches and the massive Alexander Neveski catheral are located in the central area. Hot mineral water rises in the city centre and the ornate nineteenth century bath houses are currently being renovated. There is an extensive and modern shopping area around Vitosha Boulevard. Further information at: http: //www. sofia. com/ Bulgaria is a very mountainous and sparely populated country (it is the size of England and Wales but has a population only of the size of London). It has very much appeal to anyone with an interest in outdoor pursuits, either in summer or winter. There are many excellent walks within a few minutes of the city and skiing on Mount Vitosha for most of the winter. What pleases many visitors to Bulgaria is that their money goes a long way. Restaurants and cafes are smart and attractive yet prices are the lowest in Europe.
