Notre maison

We completed construction of a new house on the same site as Little Tern in August 2014. The new home is very much more open-plan. A large living area opens out to an equally large deck via a set of sliding doors. The deck zig-zags around the north-east corner of the house, and leads to a set of stairs that access the carport under the house. A smaller deck with back stairs leads you to the winding garden path then out the wooden gate to the beach across the road.
The house has 2 bedrooms with an en-suite for both bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances including a dishwasher, microwave, gas cook-top and oven.

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are a couple in our mid-50s. Phil has 2 grown up children - one lives in Melbourne and the other in the same apartment building in Brisbane, where we live. We both work in government in the area of natural resource management. We would be happy to swap with anyone that wants to visit Australia at another time of the year because our house is normally a holiday rental.

The house is situated directly across from a long white sandy beach, with a fairly quiet road between. Our neighbourhood of New Brighton is a mixture of locals and holiday houses (like ours). A shop/café is about 300m north. New Brighton is built between the north arm of the Brunswick River and the ocean, so there is a choice of fishing, surfing and swimming in the ocean, or kayaking and fishing in the river. The beach is not patrolled and can get rips, though is generally fairly safe. The mouth of the Brunswick has some very safe swimming beaches. Ocean Shores Country club is 2 minutes drive south, it has fabulous views over the ocean as well as a spectacular golf course. Ocean Shores also has a regular shopping centre. Brunswick Heads (5 mins south) has a lovely pub with a large beer garden & very good cafes and restaurants. Brunswick Heads is quiet little coastal town compared to Byron Bay (15mins south), which has become a very busy tourist Mecca.
The area is on the rim of an old volcanic caldera near the sea, with mountainous lush rainforest, cane fields, dairy & agriculture. There are lovely national parks & state forests, including Mt Warning, which has a fairly challenging 3-4 hour walk: the last 200m has a rope-chain because it is so steep. Tweed Heads, Coolangatta and the Gold coast are a ½ hour drive to the north. Coolangatta has an international airport, while Gold Coast has a lot of theme parks & huge shopping centres.
