Notre maison

Our house is 3 years old, and is in the countryside 8 kilometres from the northern New South Wales town of Murwillumbah. It is a split-level home, with lobby, bedroom, bathroom and laundry downstairs, leading from the carport. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a home theatre room, large living and dining room, and a timber kitchen opening to the day dining room. There are two decks - the front one offering glorious views up the valley to Mount Warning, and the side one looking into our own private rainforest. The house is set on 20 acres (8 hectares), with much rainforest, and gardens and orchards which we are gradually establishing around the house. Because we are 8 kilometres from town, a car is essential, but we would make our own Ford Falcon available as part of the exchange. The house is furnished with our old family pieces, some of them several generations old, new sofas and chairs, and cupboards which Ron is gradually building himself!

En savoir plus sur nous

  1. We are Jean and Ron, and have recently retired from our positions as librarian and teacher respectively. We have four adult children who have all travelled far more widely than we have, and we feel it's time for us to see the world too. We both enjoy reading, music and movies, and at present much of our energy is expended on developing our property from the abandoned dairy grazing land it was into both a productive home garden and a regenerated rainforest area. Our interest in home exchange is a result of our wishing to live as part of a community rather than visiting a place simply as a tourist.

The Tweed Valley is close to the Queensland-New South Wales border, and is midway between the Gold Coast and Byron Bay. It is only an hour and a half from Brisbane, and the Gold Coast airport is 35 minutes away. The valley is the result of volcanic activity 24 to 20 million years ago, when the Tweed Shield Volcano was formed, leaving as its central plug Mount Warning, or Wollumbin as the local Aborigines called it. Today, the valley is a beautiful region of forests and agricultural land, with much to entice the visitor. There are several world heritage rainforests, endless beaches, and the wide and lovely Tweed River; and there are outdoor activities to please nearly everyone! Galleries and markets abound, because the area attracts artists and artisans of all kinds, and there are many organic growers who sell their produce at regular markets all over the region. Murwillumbah offers shopping for all your needs, with supermarkets, specialty shops and cafes. The country and coastal villages are gems, and offer many surprises. The Gold Coast is an hour away, and there you will find its famous beaches, world-class shopping, and many theme parks, from Movie World to Sea World. And an hour to the south is Byron Bay and its lovely hinterland of forests and villages. Our home in the Tweed Valley will offer you the serenity of the countryside, with easy access to the rest of the world an easy drive away!
