Notre maison

Our home is in Townsville North Queensland, Australia. It is close to beaches, sporting facilities, the Great Barrier Reef, theatre, beaches and rainforests. The house was architect designed and completed in 2006. It has large timber decks, high ceilings, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and an office. The smallest bedroom is currently used as an office/studio. The large master bedroom has a new, comfortable king-sized bed, private timber deck, walk-in wardrobe and fully tiled en-suite with shower and spa. There is also a king sized bed in the second bedroom.

The lounge/living area is open plan with a combination of Tasmanian Oak timber floor and Italian tiles. We have a plasma, wall mounted TV and high quality sound system, comfortable furniture and beautiful views of the river flats from this area. 4 meter sloping ceilings provide a cool, spacious atmosphere Sliding glass doors open onto an extensive deck with a barbecue, dining table and chairs. This is a superb area to enjoy a glass of wine and meal, or just to appreciate the views and the native garden.

The house is fully air conditioned and also has ceiling fans in every room. Security screens are fitted to all windows and doors. Glass sliding doors, louvers and sliding windows maximize the cool breezes. A large garage provides 2 car parking.

The kitchen centres around a 4 metre long bench top with seating areas. Fittings include a microwave oven, fan-forced oven, dishwasher, fridge, pull-out pantry and extensive storage areas

We love living here and our home is very important to us. We take great care of it and would provide the same level of care to an exchange home.

  1. We are Bill and Wendy. Bill, retired from Adult Education, now involved in volunteering; Wendy is retired from teaching and is also volunteering.

    We are especially interested in exchanges to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and England but would be very happy to hear from anyone in Australia, New Zealand, New York or anywhere else in the world.





The house is on a quiet corner block facing tidal river flats which provide a sanctuary for a small colony of wallabies and kangaroos. A 6 km circular walking/cycling track has been constructed around the river area and is accessible directly opposite. The track is lower than the house and ensures a high level of privacy. Native plants, including grevilleas, bottlebrushes have been extensively planted. Some flower all year and a variety of bird species, including parrots, lorikeets and bee-birds can be regularly seen at close quarters. The area is safe, quiet and friendly with shopping areas close by.

Townsville is a growing, vibrant tropical city with a population of about 200 000. We enjoy a superb winter climate with low humidity, 24 degrees C daytime temperatures and clear blue skies. There are numerous restaurants, a busy theatre, entertainment centre, national sporting teams including basketball and rugby league. The Great Barrier Reef is readily accessible and there are many offshore islands within easy reach. Rainforest at Mt Spec is about an hour’s drive and there are also many beach communities to explore. The tourist city of Cairns is 4 hours drive. Brisbane is 75 minutes flying time.

Magnetic Island, a Townsville suburb, is a 15 minute ferry trip across Cleveland Bay.
